Certified true copies

Certified True Copy in Singapore — Hand Us the Originals, Get Them Back Certified

A certified true copy is a photocopy that a notary public has compared with the original and signed as a true copy. For use overseas, the notary also issues a notarial certificate and SAL adds an apostille. We collect your originals, get the copies certified and apostilled, and return everything to you.

Who can certify a copy, and when it has to be a notary

In Singapore, lawyers, commissioners for oaths, notaries public and some banks certify copies. Which one you need depends on the recipient.

Going overseas? It almost always has to be a notary public.

Only a notarised copy can be apostilled by the Singapore Academy of Law. If a Singapore bank or agency is asking, a lawyer or commissioner may be enough — check their instructions.

Passport and NRIC copies: what the notary needs from you

For identity documents, the notary compares the copy with the original and may also want to see you briefly to confirm the document is yours. If so, we’ll arrange it at your home or office, or combine it with any notary visit you already need. We don’t keep copies of NRIC or passport pages once the job is done, in line with Singapore’s PDPA. How we handle documents.

Certified copy plus apostille for overseas use

Most overseas universities, banks and registries want the certified copy apostilled. The notary issues a notarial certificate for the copy, SAL apostilles it, and — for countries outside the Apostille Convention — the embassy legalises it. Apostille · Embassy attestation

Per-page fees

The official notary fee is S$10 for the first page and S$2 for each further page of the same document, plus S$75 for the notarial certificate — so a one-page certified copy is S$85. The SAL apostille adds S$87.20 per document. Our runner fee starts from S$25 per document, and each extra document in the same order is S$15. All fees.

Certified copy questions

Do I get my originals back?

Yes, always. The notary keeps only the certified copy on file where the rules require it; your originals come back to you.

Can you certify a copy of a document that is itself a copy?

A notary can only certify a copy against an original, or against a copy that was itself certified. Bring the original wherever possible.

How many copies should I make?

One per recipient, unless they tell you otherwise. Extra copies made during the same job cost less than starting again.
