Statutory Declarations in Singapore — Single Status, Name and Address for Overseas Use

A statutory declaration is a written statement of facts that you formally declare to be true before a notary public or commissioner for oaths. Overseas registries, banks and visa offices ask for them when there is no official certificate for what they need to know — that you are single, that two names belong to the same person, or where you live. We arrange the declaration at your place and get it apostilled.

Proving single status for a marriage abroad

Many countries ask a foreigner marrying there to prove they are free to marry. A statutory declaration of single status, notarised and apostilled in Singapore, is commonly accepted. Some registries also want an official record or their own form, so ask the marriage registry abroad for its checklist and send it to us. For Vietnam and China, the apostille is now enough in most cases — Vietnam · China.

One and the same person: fixing name mismatches

A missing middle name, a different spelling or a married name can stall a property sale, a visa or a bank transfer. A one-and-same-person declaration states that the different names in your documents all refer to you, listing each document. Bring every document where your name appears.

Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths?

Used within Singapore

A commissioner for oaths is usually enough.

Going overseas

You need a notary public, because only a notarised declaration can be apostilled by the Singapore Academy of Law. We arrange whichever your recipient needs.

Declaration questions

Do I have to write the declaration myself?

The facts must be yours, and the recipient may have a set wording. Send us their template; if they have none, use the wording they described in their instructions. We don’t give legal advice on what to declare.

Is making a false declaration serious?

Yes. A statutory declaration is made under law, and a false one is an offence. Only declare what you know to be true.

Can I make the declaration at home?

Yes. The notary comes to you, confirms your identity and witnesses your declaration. Mobile notary.

Declare it once, correctly.
